LIVING THE CHRISTIAN JOURNEY

LIVING THE CHRISTIAN JOURNEY

At the heart of Christian spiritual journey is the desire to become more Christ-like. There is much that we can learn about our voyage of discovery both from those around us and from those who have made that journey in the past.

Many people find it helpful to have a companion on their spiritual journey – some call this person a Spiritual Director or a Soul Friend. There are a number of men and women – both ordained and lay from across the denominations – in various networks in the East Midlands who are available to help in this way. Co-ordinators have lists of who they are and are able to put people in touch with them. If you would like to speak to someone about this then you can obtain further information from Mike Playdon.

Within Leicestershire, for instance, there is a Spirituality Core Group (which includes a representive from the United Reformed Church) which is able to help run quiet days and short courses on prayer in local churches or groups of churches. Members of the Group are also willing to lead ‘retreats in daily life’ – or a week of ‘accompanied prayer’ in your church or group. There are occasional evenings to which you are invited to come along  at which there will be a conversation and resourcing about different aspects of spirituality. The Group, in this way and with other initiatives, seeks to encourage the wider Church as well as individual Christians to engage in spirituality.

Spirituality – living the Christian journey – is something that those who wish to nurture their faith may want to know more about. The role of the Spirituality Core Group and Network is to help facilitate that journey.

Under the auspices of the Leicester Diocesan Spirituality Network nine sessions on "Growing in Prayer" are offered at the Church of Christ the King, Beaumont Way, Beaumont Leys, Leicester, LE4 1DS. These are open to all who are interested.
