The United Reformed Church’s Mission Committee is urging Christians to oppose plans to annexe Palestinian territories in the West Bank – and calling on churches to lobby the UK government.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared his commitment to annexing a significant part of the West Bank as soon as the beginning of July. In response, 13 senior church leaders in the Holy Land have come together to express “the utmost concern” that this plan “would bring about the loss of any remaining hope for the success of the peace process”.
The Mission Committee has now passed a resolution endorsing a parliamentary petition which calls on the UK government to oppose annexation and to introduce sanctions if it should go ahead next month. Church members are encouraged to lobby MPs who have not yet signed the petition, asking for their support.
