Reflection from Richard Knott, CYDO

With the season of Advent on our horizon, l wonder if you feel ready?

Have you started to buy Christmas presents and ordered your turkey? Did you start preparations months ago? Are you trying to ignore the fact that there are only 34 sleeps till the big day? Or have you like at least one member of the Synod C&Y team already put your tree up? Or like another member of the Synod team are you shocked and dismayed at the very thought?

In Godly Play we refer to the time of Advent as the time to get ready to enter the great mystery of Christmas. This is less about the tinsel and shopping lists and more about remembering and reveling again in the awe and wonder of the God who rules the cosmos becoming flesh on earth in the shape of the most vulnerable of humans. A fetus in the womb of an unmarried teenager in an occupied land. This should surely give us all cause to pause and to wonder anew.

This Advent l pray that you, your loved ones, and the children, young people, and their households that you serve alongside are wrapped up again in that great mystery. The mystery that changed everything!

Happy Advent, one and all!
