Who are we?

We have two key people.

Our CYDO (Children’s & Youth Development Officer) is a Synod Staff post, and may change every few years.

Our Synod Youth Representative is a volunteer elected by the youth of the Synod to represent them on the Children & Youth Development group. He or she is likely to change year by year.

The current holder of these positions are :-

Richard Knott

Contact Richard

Richard’s role as CYDO is to offer support to all churches in the Synod seeking to ensure that all are encouraged, equipped and enabled to engage effectively with children, young people and their households.

Richard is available to support churches in the development of new or existing projects and to empower children and young people to take a lead role within their local churches, the Synod and at Assembly level. Believing passionately that the Church as the body of Christ is at its best when all ages are fully involved together, Richard would be delighted to hear from you.

I am 16 and at Confetti College in Nottingham studying a course on live sound and lighting for events.

Firstly, what is a Synod?
A synod is a fancy word that the URC uses as a name to a group of churches in a geographical area. You and your church are part of the East Midlands Synod.

As Youth Representative of the synod, my role is to make sure that your voice is heard in front of all the adults that do all the important decision making that defines what our synod is like and how to support local churches. There are a lot of churches in our synod and many young people, we want you to join us to come together, make friends and have fun, but also to help shape the future of the URC. Youth Assembly, which runs each January, is a great place to do this!

I’d love to hear about anything you’re doing at your church, or if you want to learn more about Youth Assembly or just want to say ‘hi’, then please get in touch with me using the contact form or by the ‘eastmidlandssynodyouth’ Instagram account.

We will be advertising future events on the Instagram page and on this website and I am looking forward to meeting as many of you as possible.
