West Derbyshire United Reformed Church in Wirksworth has held a special Service of Thanksgiving to mark over forty years of the Glenorchy Centre, following the decision to close its doors.
The Revd Edward Butlin led the congregation in celebrating all that the Centre has meant since it opened as self-catering group accommodation in 1983, in the building originally built to house the Sunday School of the then Congregational Church.
Attenders at the Thanksgiving, held on Sunday 3 November, also received greetings from Synod Moderator The Revd Geoffrey Clarke, recalling his own special memories of the Centre. Geoffrey said, “I pray that the satisfaction of knowing Glenorchy’s walls have accommodated countless folk across the years will compensate for the sadness of its doors closing.”
