On Sunday 17 November, Abington Avenue URC, Northampton helped mount an exciting ecumenical event entitled Care for Creation.
Following the success of past events at the church, Abington Avenue’s Eco Group invited representatives of Anglican, Catholic and Baptist churches to form an Ecu Eco Group and plan this occasion in partnership. An hour of “Wild Worship” included nature-based craft activities for all ages, using ideas from A Rocha, while refreshments using Fair Trade and LOAF foods were on offer.
The event culminated in an ecumenical act of worship using resources from Green Christian, and featuring an inspiring keynote address by prominent theologian and environmentalist Ruth Valerio, the instigator of Eco Church. Around 120 people took part, some travelling from over an hour away, and feedback was overwhelmingly positive – with plans now afoot for a larger open-air day next summer.
